10 Pros of Assisted Living

10 Pros of Assisted Living

Assisted living has come a long way, baby! Assisted-living facilities are no longer the dated, institution-like facilities of old. They are now vibrant communities full of daily activities and social support, coupled with a high level of care aimed at improving overall health and safety.

Of course it’s not all raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens. Each assisted living facility has its strengths and weaknesses. The food might be better over here, while the social groups better over there. But, high-quality assisted-living facilities share a number of pros, including

1. Three square meals a day served (generally) in a communal environment of your peers (so no cooking or eating alone).

2. Assistance with daily activities that could otherwise be difficult, including eating, bathing, dressing, mobility, and going to the bathroom.

3. Housekeeping services, which includes laundry. (Imagine, no cooking and no cleaning!)

4. Transportation to events and services (including health services appointments).

5. 24-hour security.

6. Fitness, nutrition and wellness programs catered to your needs as a senior.

7. Regularly scheduled activities for seniors.

8. A social atmosphere that removes the solitary component that often accompanies the aging process.

9. Mental health monitoring and mental health services.

10. A ‘homey’ atmosphere that includes both private and public areas.

The freedom and security that assisted-living facilities offer empower seniors to live active lifestyles in a social environment. But not all assisted-living facilities are the same, so when choosing a facility you need to know what is important to you, and what isn’t.

When selecting an assisted living facility, keep the following questions in mind to ensure that you reap the benefits that you’re looking for — and that will improve the quality of your life:

  • Will the level of care they provide be the level that you require for a happy, healthy lifestyle?

  • Will it have an appropriate level of social activities and events for your lifestyle?

  • Does it provide the needed level of home services, including cleaning and laundry?

  • Will the facility provide you with the nutrition, wellness, and health programs that will ensure your continued good health?

  • Is the facility close enough to your friends and family that you will still continue to have that support system around you?

  • Does it offer the transportation that you need to be able to attend your worship services and health care appointments, go shopping, and attend other events and activities?

If you’re considering moving to an assisted living facility, then there is a plethora of convincing reasons to move forward with that decision. However, the decision shouldn’t be taken lightly. Closely examine the assisted-living facilities in your area to ensure that they offer the exact services you are looking for to improve your life, health, and well-being.
